    Background:

    I have a bachelor degree in electrical engineering from the University of Electronics Science and Technology of China and PA Instructional 1 certificate from the University of Pittsburgh. From August 1992 to March 1998, I worked as an electronic engineer in the Research Institute of TV & Electro-acoustics in Beijing, China. I began teaching Chinese in Upper St. Clair High School in August of 2008 and currently teach level 1 through level 4.

    Courses Taught:

    Chinese 1:  

    This class will cover unit 1-4 of textbook “Learn Chinese with Me” book 1. The contents include:

    • Study Pinyin, the Chinese Romanization
    • Study around 150 Chinese characters and 200 words
    • Study the radical parts of Chinese characters
    • Computer skills for inputting Chinese characters
    • Develop communication skills on
      • Greeting
      • Self-introduction
      • Talking about friends, family, school life, time and daily routine, weather and seasons
    • Grammar
      • To be, to have, to do, adjective and adverbial and prepositional phrases

    Chinese 2: 

    This class will cover units 5&6 of the textbook “Learn Chinese with Me” book 1 and unit 1&2 of the textbook “Learn Chinese with Me” book 2. The contents include:

    • Study around 250 Chinese characters and 350 vocabulary words
    • Study the radical parts of Chinese characters
    • Develop communication skills on foods, shopping, clothing, sports and health, school life, and hobbies
    • Grammar
      • 会+v. (can +v.), 因为(because), 如果,要是 (if), 能+v (can +v.), 想+v,(want to +v.), 要+v. (want to+v.), 觉得(feel like), 还是(or), 有 (there be), 了(action has completed)
      • Frequently used sentence patterns, e.g. 是……的 , 在+location+ v., S+v+O+v, 太……了 (too, so), 就要……了 (be about to)

    Chinese 3:

    This class will cover unit 2-5 of the textbook “Learn Chinese with Me” book 2. The contents include:

    • Study around 250 Chinese characters and 350 vocabulary words
    • Develop communication skills on hobbies, family, diet and health, and colorful clothing
    • Grammar
      • Present perfect tense, past tense, future tense, comparative degree 更, superlative degree 最,怎么,and 还 (still)
      • Frequently used sentence patterns, e.g. 又……又……, 最好+v.,太……了,已经……了,从……到……, 就要…..., 在+ v. , 了(particle for action has completed), 要+v., 应该+v.,      跟…..一样,因为……所以……

    Chinese 4:

    This class will cover unit 5&6 of the textbook “Learn Chinese with Me” book 3 and unit 1-4 of the textbook “Learn Chinese with Me” book 4. The contents include:

    • Study around 300 Chinese characters and 400 vocabulary words
    • Study the radical parts of Chinese characters
    • Develop communication skills on hobbies, family, diet and health, and colorful clothing
    • Grammar
      • 把,就,到(complementary),对 (toward), particle 地,原来,怪不得,曾经,measure word 趟,而且,
      • Frequently used sentence patterns, g. “先….., 然后……, 再……”, “如果……就……”, “跟……相比”, “不管……都”, “…….极了”, “越A越 B”, “为什么不……呢”
