• PSSA Testing Schedule

    April 6, 2021  |  Revised April 15, 2021

    Dear Families,

Recently, the U.S. Department of Education announced that schools are required to administer annual state achievement tests for the 2020-2021 school year, although certain flexibility in testing dates and participation requirements would be offered to states. In Pennsylvania, the test administration window has been extended to allow school districts to administer the assessments to more students and to allow for applicable health and safety protocols.

Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) Tested Subjects
All students in grades 3-8 will be tested in the areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students in grades 4 and 8 will also be tested in the area of Science.

We are providing you with the planned testing dates for administering the PSSA for this spring. However, due to specific circumstances at each school, each school will have its own PSSA schedule to meet the individual needs of the students in that building. The testing window for PSSA begins April 19 and extends through September 2021. The school district has opted to complete required testing prior to the end of the current school year. Buildings will communicate specific testing day schedules, including logistics for remote learners, ahead of testing.

    Health & Safety Protocols
Testing will be completed in a manner such that all health and safety mitigation strategies can be implemented. Remote students will be provided with an opportunity to complete their required assessments in a setting that is physically distanced at six feet.

    Assessment Results
The results from PSSAs will be used to help with instructional planning for all students. Individual student test results will not be used in isolation to make decisions about classroom/instructional placement. Assessment results will be sent to families when they are received. Typically, the results are received in the fall of the next school year.

    Testing Participation
All students in grades 3-8 - including remote and in-person learners - are included in the administration of the PSSAs. Should you wish to exclude your student from testing this year, a parent/guardian must submit a request in writing via email to the building leaders and assessment coordinators using the appropriate email address below by this Sunday, April 11, 2021. Please include: student name, grade level, and homeroom. Students who do not participate in the PSSA will participate in academic review during the testing period.

Additional important information regarding the PSSA is linked below. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school counselor. We thank you for your cooperation and support.
