Southwood Children's Behavioral Healthcare

The Upper St. Clair School District serves as the Host District for several programs provided by Southwood Children's Behavioral Healthcare located at:

As the Host District, Upper St. Clair is responsible to arrange and provide education to students in these programs. Resident School Districts are invoiced for the education services provided during the time a student is enrolled with Upper St. Clair as a result of their admittance to any of the following programs.

Southwood Hospital Inpatient Treatment

Acute, medically-necessary care for children and adolescents. Upper St. Clair School District operates a school program at the hospital that provides education services by certified teachers to students who are medically-cleared to receive such services. The school program is not a replication of a traditional school day, and students participate in 1-2 hours of classroom instruction per day.

Students who are admitted to the hospital for more than 10 school days will be enrolled in Upper St. Clair School District under Section 1306 of the School Code and a PDE-4605 form will be issued to the District of Residence.

CHOICES Residential Program / Southwood School

CHOICES is a long-term (9-12 months) residential placement for adolescent males. Most students living at CHOICES receive education services at Southwood School, a PDE-approved private school. Students will be enrolled in Upper St. Clair School District under Section 1306 of the School Code and a PDE-4605 form will be issued to the District of Residence as of the first school day of placement.

CHANGES Short-Term Residential Program

CHANGES is a new, short-term (60-90 days) residential placement for adolescent males and females. Upper St. Clair School District will educate most students living at CHANGES through online coursework during their stay. Students will be enrolled in Upper St. Clair School District under Section 1306 of the School Code and a PDE-4605 form will be issued to the District of Residence as of the first school day of placement.

 

Please Note: Southwood's IDD/ASD Residential Program is not located in Upper St. Clair. The Host District for the IDD/ASD program is Canon-McMillan School District.


Students with Disabilities

Any child placed in a Southwood Children's Behavioral Healthcare program is entitled to a Free Appropriate Public Education during their period of admission/placement. Any student with an IEP or 504 plan will be provided with the supports and services needed to participate in and benefit from their education. 

Student Privacy / Records

All parents/guardians are required to provide consent to Southwood's programs before information can be shared with Upper St. Clair School District. Upper St. Clair School District will contact a student's resident school district when consent is provided for information exchange.
