Fort Couch MS
In STEAM at Fort Couch Middle School, students explore the properties of various materials through exciting problem-solving activities. As a part of the Expressive Arts rotation in 7th grade, students design, build, and test a sailboat to transport freight as fast as possible, with the opportunity to use hand tools and machines.
In 8th grade, students get the opportunity to participate in the Expressive Arts elective program, where they can select from over 20 different learning opportunities. The STEAM elective options include robotics, technical drawing and design, making & breaking, and the mountain freight challenge. These options allow students to choose their preferred path based on their 7th-grade experiences.
While creating selected projects, students gain experience working with hand tools, power tools, and computers. Drawings, models, and computer renderings are also part of the building process.
Great emphasis is placed on safety practices and the storage and care of shop equipment.
