Curriculum

The Upper St. Clair School District is recognized locally and nationally for its outstanding educational programs. The school district is an educational leader among the 43 school districts in Allegheny County and the 500 districts in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Upper St. Clair teachers, curriculum leaders and administrators jointly share responsibilities to determine curriculum and individual course offerings. A planned sequence of teacher initiatives, and curriculum leader and administrative guidance lead to recommendations for curriculum change. Instructional staff members are directly involved in planning curriculum and implementing new instructional programs through school staff meetings, district curriculum committees, department meetings and summer curriculum projects.

A district-wide curriculum panel coordinates the overall development of programs from kindergarten through the 12th grade. Panel membership includes representatives from elementary, middle and high school in each subject area. Student and parent input to the curriculum process is also encouraged.

During the summer months, district curriculum leaders and teachers work together to develop comprehensive guides and supplementary materials. Each discipline operates on an annually established budget for supplies, books and equipment. This budget is formulated through the efforts of teachers, curriculum leaders and administrators.
