USC senior qualifies for international triathlon

Amatheon Bohan Amatheon Bohan, a senior at Upper St. Clair High School, finished 11th in the 2016 National Age Group Triathlon Championships in Omaha, Neb. – qualifying to represent Team USA at the International Triathlon Union's World Championships in Rotterdam, The Netherlands Sept. 14-17, 2017.

Amatheon finished 11th in the 17-19 age group – the third fastest 17 year old.

“What an amazing time we had at the 2016 National Age Group Triathlon Championships in Omaha!” Debbie Bohan, Amatheon’s mom, said. “A truly amazing accomplishment as this was only the second time he has competed in an Olympic distance triathlon (he qualified for Nationals at his first one last summer) and he doesn’t have any of the professional equipment most of the other athletes had.”

According to its website, Team USA was created by USA Triathlon to be a team of age group/amateurs who will best represent the United States and compete in the International Triathlon Union’s World Championships, which attracts the best athletes representing over 50 countries each year.

In addition to competing in triathlons, Amatheon is a member and captain of both the Upper St. Clair High School swim and Ultimate Frisbee teams.

“Triathlons have only been ‘summer fun’ for him this summer and last. Perhaps he should consider pursuing it a little more seriously,” Mrs. Bohan quipped.
