Fifth Grader Wins Second Place in Regional Chemistry Illustrated Poem Contest
The second place winner in the regional Chemistry Illustrated Poem Contest was Jillian Fishell, a fifth
grader at Boyce Middle School. Jillian received an award certificate and a check for $25.
The Pittsburgh Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) sponsored an illustrated poem contest for students in grades K-12 in support of the 2015 National Chemistry Week (NCW) program.
Students were invited to pick topics related to the 2015 NCW theme “Chemistry Colors Our World!” First and second place winners were selected from one of four grade categories: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Poems could be written in any style (free verse, limerick, haiku, etc.). Entries were judged based upon relevance to and incorporation of the theme, word choice and imagery, colorful artwork, adherence to poem style, originality and creativity, and overall presentation.
Congratulations to our newest recognized poet from Boyce Middle School, Jillian Fishell!
