Fort Couch History Buffs “Clean-Up” at History Bowl Competition
Fort Couch gifted students “stepped back in time” on Thursday, October 29 to compete in the regional History Bowl at the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh’s Strip District. Throughout the day, students used both their knowledge of the humanities, along with problem solving, reasoning, critical thinking skills, and creativity, as they completed four competitive experiences related to our region’s past.
The four challenges posed to the students this year were:
- WWII Trivia Quiz
- Pittsburgh Sports Timeline
- Creation of a Heinz Promotional Radio Advertisement
- Answering Pittsburgh A-Z questions in the Special Collections exhibit.
Thanks to stellar thinking and dedication, Fort Couch teams claimed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the 6th-8th grade division! First place team members included Vivek Babu, Rohan Mishra, Ishaan Shah, and Maxwell Turnwald. Second place team members were Christian Chiu, Reshma Gudla, Patrick Joyce, and Sophia Shi. Third place team members included Jason Choi, Jack Clark, Basir Khan, and Aleksa Rodic.
Staff mentors for the History Bowl project were Ms. Connie Gibson and Ms. Susan Fleckenstein.
Congratulations to all USC participants on an impressive performance at the History Bowl!
