The school counseling program in the Upper St. Clair School District is designed to meet the needs of all students. In addition to seeing students individually and in classroom settings, the elementary school counselors are trained to teach skills and reinforce learning in small groups.
A teacher may refer your child to a group or you may refer them based on areas in which you would like to strengthen within your child. We emphasize that groups are for everyone, and participating does not indicate a problem. All students can benefit from learning how to accept responsibility, manage stress, communicate effectively, make decisions and solve problems. Students can learn from one another and enhance their self-concepts in a supportive group setting. Each group meets once a week or once every other week. This takes place during the school day, typically during DEAR time, lunch or recess and will last for twenty to thirty minutes. Most groups meet for 6-8 sessions and some meet all year long.
If you would like your child to participate, please complete the bottom portion of this permission form and return it to Eisenhower Elementary School as soon as possible. Please indicate your first and second choices. The groups will be offered based on need and interest. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 412-833-1600 x8010 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
