Poems by High School Freshman, Ashton Saunders, Featured in National Publication
Ashton Saunders learned on May 26 from Associate Editor Ms. Anna Neher that the Cricket Magazine Group editorial board wanted to commission, print, and distribute three edited selections from her collection of poetry in a future edition of CICADA®.
CICADA is a magazine “fascinated with the lyric and strange, and committed to work that speaks to teens’ truths.” A subsidiary of Cricket Media, CICADA publishes poetry, realistic and genre fiction, essay, and comics by adults and teens. The Cricket Magazine Group began offering top-quality children’s literature over 35 years ago, and now publishes a line of beautifully illustrated literary magazines for children of all ages. CICADA was added in 1998.

According to her English teacher Ms. Daniela Buccilli, who shared the soon-to-be published poems entitled “Wishing? * Well,” “Looking up, extremely High,” and “The silhouette of snowflakes” with her class, it is “special for a poet to receive such amazing feedback from editors.” Ms. Buccilli added, “For your whole manuscript to have been read and so well received is a testament to your talent and effort.” She concluded, “You should be proud of your work! It has moved a complete stranger to feel and think.”
