Traffic Light Behavior Watch

In an effort to create a wonderfully enriching, fun, and peaceful learning environment, the students in room 128 will participate in the "Traffic Light Behavior Watch" everyday.  This behavior plan is employed to minimize classroom disruptions and distractions, in an effort to maximize instructional time and the learning process.  I believe this tool will help each and every child be the best they can be both academically and socially.

WHAT DO THE COLORS MEAN?

GREEN: I'm having an awesome day!
YELLOW: I'm having a little trouble with my behavior.(10 minutes of recess will be lost)
RED: I need to make better choices.  (All of recess will be lost)

WHAT COLOR DOES EACH STUDENT START WITH EACH DAY?

GREEN!  Everyone will start on green and it's their responsibility to work hard to keep their "stick person" in the green light position.

WHEN DO THE STUDENTS MOVE FROM GREEN TO YELLOW AND/OR RED?

The students will move from the GREEN light if he/she fails to follow our classroom or school rules.

DO THE STUDENTS RECEIVE WARNINGS BEFORE MOVING THEIR "STICK PERSON"?

YES, but as we move through the year and the students become more mature and accustomed to our rules and routines, the warnings will be less frequent.  The plan below will be followed:

September - October - November ------- 2 warnings will be given before the student needs to move their "stick person"

December - January - February --------- 1 warning will be given before the student needs to move their "stick person"

March - April - May - June ----------------- 0 warnings will be given.  The student will automatically move their "stick person" to yellow or red if they break a classroom or school rule.

CAN THE STUDENTS IMPROVE UPON THEIR BEHAVIOR AND MOVE THEIR "STICK PERSON" BACK TO GREEN?

Absolutely!  This plan is used to help the students control their behavior and learn to make better choices.

WILL THE PARENTS KNOW WHAT COLOR THEIR STUDENT WAS ON FOR THE DAY?

YES!

HOW WILL THEY KNOW?

Each student will have a calendar that STAYS in their take-home folder for the ENTIRE month and at the end of each day the student will color that day with the color that they earned.

WHAT SHOULD AND CAN THE PARENTS DO WITH THIS INFORMATION?

The parents NEED to initial each and every day and discuss with their student the behavior color that they earned for the day.

It is my hope and my goal that this behavior plan will help all of the students in room 128
"BE GOOD EGGS,"
thus leaving the world behind them a BETTER place!
