SCHOOL WIDE ENRICHMENT PROGRAMSWEP I, II, III
A School Wide Enrichment Program (SWEP) is used at the elementary level to provide a wide range of enrichment opportunities for all students in the district. The SWEP model is grounded in the work of Joseph Renzulli, an educational researcher and director, of the National Research Center for the Gifted and Talented at the University of Connecticut. This program also embraces the theory of “multiple intelligences", as set forth by Howard Gardner. These two philosophies provide the framework to help recognize and nurture the variety of strengths and talents that children possess.SWEP I - Provides opportunities for all elementary students to explore new ideas and challenge themselves through a series of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities. Twice a year, classroom teachers facilitate a specific learning experience that allows students to work in small groups to complete a task or solve a problem. Please contact Mrs. Pam Dillie for more information.SWEP II - Provides critical and creative thinking challenges to students identified as gifted. Please see SWEP II tab for more information.SWEP III - Third grade students persue an area of interest through an independent research project, culminating in an oral presentation to classmates. Please contact Mrs. Stevenson (x6074) or Mrs. Kellner (x6015) for more information.
