This school year our school was awarded a $9,600.00 grant from High Mark's Healthy High Five program aimed at preventing childhood obesity. With the monies we were able to purchase 3 treadmills, a recumbent bike, Play Station's Dance Dance Revolution with mats, and a few other items pertaining to fitness. So far the students have been able able to walk/jog on the treadmills and ride the bike while monitoring their heart rates. They are always supervised and we have gone over the safety rules and issues each time. Emergency stopping is the first thing they learned. It is refreshing to watch their faces beam as they try out the new equipment and proudly recite their heart rate. Hopefully it will make a life-long difference on how they view staying in shape and fitness.
