Welcome to Boyce Band! There are 2 components to our band program: lessons and rehearsals. Every child in the program receives a weekly, 40-minute, small-class lesson, AND a weekly, 40-minute, large-ensemble rehearsal.
Band lessons occur during the school day and do NOT rotate on the 6-day schedule; they stay fixed to a particular day (Monday, Tuesday, etc.) This makes it easier for you and your child to remember when to go to lessons. There are also make-up spots available at pride time for students to use in the event of absence.
The band method book we use is: Sound Innovations For Concert Band, by Robert Sheldon, book 1. It's the same book used in 4th grade band. All other printed materials are supplied by the school. Students should have the necessary supplies for their instrument: reeds, valve oil, etc.
Ensemble rehearsals are held BEFORE school, once a week as follows:
In-school lessons are for developing individual skills. Before-school rehearsals are for preparing concert repertoire for our winter & spring concerts. Regular attendance at BOTH lessons & rehearsals is necessary to maintain good progress. Students should also strive to maintain a consistent home practice schedule of 15 - 20 minutes, 3 to 4 times per week.
Communication is central to your child's success, so if you have any questions, please contact me. I look forward to working with you and your children.
Thank you for your support!
