    All-Eastern Honors Ensembles

Three selected for All-Eastern choir ensembles

All-Eastern Honors EnsemblesThree Upper St. Clair High School seniors were recently selected to the 2023 National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-Eastern Honors Ensembles. Sia Iyer will perform with the mixed choir. Rebecca Lang and Edy McCurrie have been named to the treble choir.

In April 2023, Sia, Rebecca and Edy will spend three days at the 2023 NAfME All-Eastern Conference in Rochester, NY. The students will rehearse and perform under the direction of guest conductors from the University of Maryland and the University of North Texas. At Upper St. Clair, the students work under the direction of Lorraine Milovac, high school choral director.

All three students were named to the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) All-State Choir last spring. In May 2022, they were part of a six-student chorus ensemble that performed alongside the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at Heinz Hall. The students are members of the Chanteclairs and National Honor Society.

The All-Eastern Honors Ensembles consist of high school juniors and seniors from Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont as well as the District of Columbia, or a Department of Defense School in Europe. Ensembles – which include a concert band, symphony orchestra, mixed chorus, treble chorus, jazz ensemble and modern band – are organized by members of the NAfME. Student participation from each state is determined by a percentage of the total NAfME Eastern Division membership, with no state given less than two percent representation.

Each of the state music educators associations within the Eastern Division oversee the selection process in its respective state during the spring and early fall of the year before the event and compile ranked lists of recommended juniors and seniors for consideration. The method used to compile the lists varies from state to state, although all recommended students must have participated or will be participating in their home all-state festivals.

The 2023 NAfME All-Eastern Honors Ensembles will perform for an audience of thousands on Saturday, April 15 and Sunday, April 16, 2023, at the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester and the Theater at Innovation Square in Rochester, NY.
