    Communication with families

Families will receive an exposure notice via email and automated call when there have been two or more positive cases within a five day period in a child’s classroom. This process will replace the current close contact/exposure notification process. Contact tracing will be the responsibility of the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD).

    • The exposure notice will ask families to closely monitor for symptoms.
    • Should symptoms develop, students must remain home and families should contact the school’s health office.
    • Asymptomatic students may continue to attend school, unless otherwise directed by ACHD.
    • If a student is identified as a close contact by the ACHD or by the positive case, additional quarantine information will be shared by the District.
    • Exposures through extracurricular activities will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
    • Any students exhibiting illness symptoms at school will be referred to the school nurse for evaluation.

The USCSD COVID-19 Dashboard has been updated to provide more detailed information regarding the number of cases throughout the District. Each school has a separate chart within the dashboard. Data for our elementary schools and the high school are displayed by grade level and middle school information is listed by team. In all schools, the data includes active cases over a rolling five-day period to better align with ACHD guidelines. The dashboard will continue to be updated in real time as information is reported. The additional detail in the dashboard and exposure notices will replace the current close contact notification process.
