Information Regarding Activities & Athletics
Dear Upper St. Clair Families:
As you know, news surrounding the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) has been prevalent throughout the last 24 hours with significant new developments. While all of this information can feel overwhelming and confusing, we remain committed to making decisions that keep the safety of our students, our staff and our community at the forefront. We continue to follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other public health organizations. The latest guidance suggests that organizations limit large events to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. As a result, many higher education institutions and even professional sports have suspended operations in order to help contain the spread of COVID-19.
With this guidance in mind, the Upper St. Clair School District is instituting new measures intended to preserve the continuation of the district’s core educational services for as long as possible while safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our community. As such, most events held in our school facilities/properties beyond the school day are canceled/postponed. Effective this evening and until at least Tuesday, April 14, 2020, only the following activities will occur in our schools/facilities:
- Kindergarten – grade 8: School and Extended Day Services ONLY
- High School: School and in-season athletics ONLY. No spectators will be allowed at home competitions
Please note that ALL events from outside permit holders are canceled.
In addition, all non-essential school-sponsored travel for staff and students is also suspended until at least Tuesday, April 14. A team of district officials has been meeting on a daily basis to assess the status of the district and make recommendations going forward.
These new measures are a continuation of our current course of action: prevention, preparedness, public health and, most of all, people. Clearing the school buildings as soon as possible after the school day provides custodial staff additional time and access to more thoroughly clean and disinfect schools and classrooms.
If you have questions or comments, please contact your building principal and/or Tina Vojtko at email@example.com.
We know these measures may be disappointing to you. However, please know that at the forefront of every decision is the commitment to protect the safety and welfare of our students, our staff and our community members. While we hope these measures will enable us to continue to safely deliver educational services for our 4,100 students, we expect additional difficult decisions in the coming days and weeks.
We will continue to provide regular updates as new information is available and/or additional decisions are made. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
