Substitute Teaching in Upper St. Clair

Day-to-Day Substitute Compensation:
- Monday – Thursday: $100/full-day | $50/half-day (non-USCSD retirees)
- Friday: $120/full-day | $70/half-day
A day-to-day substitute's status will change to a per diem assignment if he/she works in the same assignment for 11 or more consecutive days. The per diem rate is $255.33 per day (Monday - Friday).
These are one-time payments to reward day-to-day and per diem substitutes for their consistent service to the Upper St. Clair School District. Bonuses will be paid at each 25-day increment during a single school year. These will be paid on the 15th of the month following when the milestone is reached.
- 25 days: $50 bonus
- 50 days: $100 bonus
- 75 days: $150 bonus
- 100+ days: $150 bonus
Access to Training & Professional Development
After completing 25 days of service, day-to-day substitutes will participate in ALICE Training Online. In addition, these substitutes will be provided the opportunity to voluntarily participate in the district’s professional development trainings for teachers. Those holding a Pennsylvania teaching certificate will earn Act 48 hours for all applicable training.
Interviewing for Posted Teaching Positions
The district’s certificated day-to-day and per diem substitutes are always welcome to apply for permanent and long-term substitute openings within the district. Those who complete 75 days of service within a school year are guaranteed an interview for teaching positions within their respective certification area(s) for which they apply.
Substitute Teacher Workday
- Elementary: 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
- Middle School: 7:55 a.m. - 3:55 p.m.
- High School: 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.
