USC 12U baseball competes at Cooperstown
The Upper St. Clair 12U baseball team recently finished 6-0 in pool play in the Cooperstown Dreams Park Tournament in Cooperstown, New York. The team, seeded 12th out of 104 teams, lost in its first elimination game.
“While the team lost in their first elimination game, these young men played each game with great sportsmanship and teamwork,” Tara Rankin, mom to one of the players, said. “The players were especially proud of their performance in pool play, which is a record for Upper St. Clair teams competing at the tournament since 2006.”
At the end of the week, the team was inducted into the American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame. The Cooperstown team includes rising eighth graders Luca Baird, Fernando Humphreys and Eli Rankin; rising 7th graders Michael Albert, Charlie Bywalski, Luke Fisher, Bradley Gompers, Shawn Khurana, Noah Lilja, Thomas Medwig and Iseia Schulz. The team was coached by Eric Gompers, Ed Albert and Mark Medwig. And for the second year, Paul Hess, Upper St. Clair High School Class of 2017 and Cooperstown Dreams Park 2011 alumnus, accompanied the team to serve as one of the 104 Umpires that week.
Every summer for the past 23 years, players from around the country and world compete at Cooperstown Dreams Park Family with its mission to provide a cultural and life-enriching experience for young boys and girls who love the game of baseball.
