15 named February Boyce Pride winners

Grade 6 winners Fifteen Boyce Middle School students were recently honored with February Boyce Pride Awards, a monthly celebration of kindness, sponsored by the Boyce PTO. February 2019 Boyce Pride awardees include:

Grade 6:  Lauren Blanke, Elliot Bruno, Charlie Bywalski, Elena Finger, Olivia Fuscaldo and Adin Teres

Grade 5:  Dylan Childs, Rose Drost, Isabella Meyer, Sam Rush, Annalee Sparico, Ellie Simons, Jackie Sullivan, Mark Tores and Ava Worner

Boyce Middle School staff members have the opportunity to nominate one or more students who have gone above and beyond in the areas of academics, attitude and/or peer relationships. Nominating teachers or staff members prepare a brief narrative summarizing why the student should be recognized. This narrative is printed onto a certificate and presented to the student awardee by Dan O’Rourke, Boyce principal, and/or Christine Mussomeli, assistant principal.

Grade 5 winners “The desire for students to display a caring attitude can only be reinforced if we recognize acts of kindness on a continual basis,” Ms. Mussomeli said. “There is no better way to start a week than our Boyce Pride Award Mondays.”

Boyce Pride Awardees are called to the library the first Monday of every month where they are recognized for their hard work. In addition to receiving a certificate and keychain, each student has his/her picture taken with Mr. O'Rourke or Ms. Mussomeli. The photos are displayed in the guidance classroom.

“For the past several years, our school community has really emphasized kindness and caring,” Dan O’Rourke, principal said. “This year we’re taking a step further as we embrace the school’s theme of ‘Educating the Mind, Inspiring the Heart,’ which focuses on students’ social-emotional learning.”

Messaging throughout the school encourages staff and students to BE Respectful, Responsible, Prepared, Productive and Safe.
