    Boyce students recognized for kindness

Fifth Graders Fifteen Boyce Middle School students as well as one staff member were recently honored with March PRIDE Awards. PRIDE Awards are a monthly celebration of kindness, sponsored by the Boyce PTO.

March 2018 PRIDE awardees include the following:

Grade 5: Deagan Duffy, Luke Fisher, Olivia Fulscado, Meredith Huzjak, Austin Middleton, Hailey Miller, Claire Rosenberry and Brayden Wells

Grade 6: Isabella Allsopp, Susan Cesar, Diana Funaro, Olivia Gray, Rory Sheagan Siniawski, Jenny Wang and Isabella Zhang

In addition, Mrs. Niedermeyer, Boyce’s Nutrition Center manager, was also recognized.

Boyce Middle School staff members have the opportunity to nominate one or more students who have gone above and beyond in the areas of academics, attitude and/or peer relationships.

“For the past several years, the Boyce school community has really focused on kindness and caring,” Dan O’Rourke, principal said. “Together, our parents and teachers have identified the need to emphasize this social awareness and our Boyce PRIDE Awards create the opportunity to recognize students for their positive actions.”

Nominating teachers or staff members prepare a brief narrative summarizing why the student should be recognized. This narrative is printed onto a certificate and presented to the student awardee by Mr. O’Rourke and/or Christine Mussomeli, assistant principal.

PRIDE Awardees are called to the library the first Monday of every month where they are recognized for their hard work. In addition to receiving a certificate and keychain, each student has his/her picture taken with Mr. O'Rourke or Ms. Mussomeli. The photos are displayed in the guidance classroom.

“The desire for students to display a caring attitude can only be reinforced if we recognize acts of kindness on a continual basis,” Ms. Mussomeli said. “There is no better way to start a week than our PRIDE Award Mondays.”
