Fort Couch celebrates International Education Week

Fort Couch students Fort Couch Middle School students recently celebrated International Education Week by participating in many cultural activities. Students had opportunities to learn about other cultures through sharing research, dances and food.

Each student participated in one of four dance lessons: a Russian folk dance workshop given by Dmitry Demidov of Demidov Dance; a lesson in Italian Tarantella from Fort Couch parent Holly Kirby; a salsa lesson from former Fort Couch parent Maritza Balta; and a Greek dance lesson from retired Fort Couch secretary, Matoula Rice.

International Education Week, held this year from Nov. 13-17, is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education and is intended to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences.

Fort Couch’s activities were planned by world language teachers Erin Lemon, Connie Montgomery and Kristin Weaver.
