USC senior crowned state champion
Upper St. Clair High School senior Harvey Kane recently became the most decorated long jumper in school history. Harvey won the PIAA Class 3A Long Jump Championship with a mark of 23 feet, 0.5 inch on May 27, 2017, at Shippensburg University.
“This achievement gives Harvey two state championships for long jump this academic year – one during indoor track and field and one during spring track and field,” Coach Douglas Petrick said. “He is the only Upper St. Clair long jumper to hit the 23 foot milestone during either competitive season.”
On June 7, 2017, Harvey was named to the Boys’ All-State Second Team by the Pennsylvania Track & Field Coaches Association. He plans to continue his academic and athletic career at Duquesne University.
Joining Harvey at the PIAA competition were junior Savannah Shaw and senior Jay Pollock. Savannah earned a fifth place medal in the 1,600 meter run – breaking her personal record with a time of 4:53.34. Jay finished 16th in the shot put throw with his toss of 49 feet, 6.25 inches.
