USC junior named a Recognized Carson Scholar

Upper St. Clair High School junior Kevin Chen has been selected as a 2017 Recognized Carson Scholar – having previously been honored with a Carson scholarship award.

“Kevin is among nearly 8,000 gifted students from across the country that have been named Carson Scholars,” Katie Damaroda, scholarship director for the Carson Scholars Fund, said. “Their academic achievements and service to their communities are what make them stand out as future leaders.”

Kevin will be honored in front of family, peers and educators at the Carson Scholars Fund Annual Pittsburgh Awards Banquet on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Heinz Field. He will receive a commemorative pin and certificate to acknowledge his continued academic and humanitarian achievements.

Founded by Ben Carson, neurosurgeon and secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the scholars program recognizes talented and dedicated students in grades 4 to 12 who are committed to making a difference in their community.
