USCHS literary arts magazine wins first place
Upper St. Clair High School’s literary arts magazine, “Montage,” recently earned a first place award in the 2016 Scholastic Yearbook and Magazine Awards for the eighth consecutive year.
The 2016 “Montage” was published through the work of several student leaders: Mahima Reddy, editor in chief 2016 and 2017; Devon Garcia, assistant editor in chief; Grace Eden, art editor; Alexa Rieger, literary editor; Aditi Chattopadhyay, treasurer; and Chris Abraham, public relations editor. English teacher Daniela Buccilli serves as adviser for the publication.
“The award is a great validation to the creative work of our students, and the efforts of the staff who meet weekly and spend many hours editing and designing it,” Ms. Buccilli said. “The American Scholastic Association offers the next year's staff essential feedback and advice in written form.”
Sponsored by the American Scholastic Press Association, the annual contest provides feedback on page design, story layout, graphics, headlining, cover design, advertising placement, photography and other publication elements. Each school yearbook and magazine is scored on a point system and is awarded a first, second or third place in its classification.
“The 2016 issue had the marks of each individual student on staff,” Ms. Buccilli said. “It reflected their work and their style, and that's why I loved it so much.”
