Musicians selected for honors band and orchestra
Nine Upper St. Clair High School musicians were recently selected through competitive audition to participate in the 2016 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 1 Honors Band and Orchestra – including one student who earned selection to both.
Junior trumpeter and double bass player James Boston will represent Upper St. Clair in both the honors band and orchestra. Alexa Drecnik, flute; Meghan Johnson, clarinet; Olivia DeLeo, clarinet; Shebl Rosati, trombone; Matt Higgs, percussion; and Justin Dreyer, percussion, earned spots in the honors band. Cellists Mallika Matharu and Savannah Shaw earned places in the honors orchestra.
Students auditioned for the honors orchestra on Sept. 19 at Fox Chapel Area High School and for the honors band on Oct. 3 at South Fayette High School. Hundreds of students from Allegheny, Fayette, Green, Washington and Westmorland counties participated in the audition process.
The honors band and orchestra will perform public concerts on Nov. 20, 2016, at North Hills High School and Bethel Park High School respectively.
