    Technology Education Teacher

    Background:

I am a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelors and Masters degree in Technology Education. Prior to entering public education I had served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 6 years as an X-Ray Specialist and I worked as a Radiologic Technologist for St. Margaret's Hospital in Fox Chapel. I've been teaching at Upper St. Clair since 1999. During my tenure here I've had the pleasure of teaching a wide variety of courses and have enjoyed each new challenge very much.

    Courses

Introduction to Architecture: Students taking this course are expected to design a unique set of floor plans and build an architecture model based upon those plans. Residential construction and design is the primary focus of this course, but international architecture is explored and prominent architects are discussed. This course is for creative students who may have an interest learning more about what it takes to become an architect or who are looking for a creative output other than traditional art classes.

Advanced Architecture: This course is for students with ambitions of attending college for a career in architecture. Students are given large scale commercial design problems with specific parameters. Students generally work in teams to develop a set of plans and architecture models that meet the “clients” needs and fulfill the creative side of designing interesting and functional structures.

Technology Design & Development: Students taking this fast pace and exciting course are exposed to a transportation, construction, communication, manufacturing, and bio-technology systems. Each lesson is re-enforced through a series of short but challenging hands-on-activities. Rockets are launched, structures are built and tested, CO2 cars are designed and raced…etc. The impacts of technology on the society, environment, individuals, and other technologies are explored and discussed.

Advanced Technology Design & Development: This follow-up course to Technology Design & Development is totally student driven. Students select a technology that they are interested in learning more about (solar energy, electric cars, earthquake proof structures, robotics…etc.) and design and build a prototype that demonstrates that technology. Additionally, they will present the results of their research, the process of constructing the prototype and their thoughts on the future of the technology.
