Dr. Steve Torquato
I am thrilled to be starting another year at Upper St. Clair High School! This year, I will be teaching AP US History and Honors American Civic Engagement (ACE). I am a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where I received my BA in Secondary Education, History, and Social Science, and a M.Ed. in Instruction and Learning. I also received my Doctor of Education degree in Teaching, Learning, and Leading last spring after defending my dissertation on "Creating Cultures of Caring in Secondary Classrooms."
When not in the classroom, I have the honor of serving as the Assistant Head of Student Activities at the high school. Therefore, I can often be found helping around the school and in extracurriculars, as I feel it really provides an opportunity for teachers to make a difference outside the classroom. It is my mission to bring history to life for our students and to help them realize that these courses are the best way to learn about who we are, where we have been, and what we can become.
In my spare time I enjoy going golfing, watching movies, traveling to historic locations, hunting for antiques or other pieces of American history, and serving on the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Council for the Social Studies!
I am very excited about working with you in the coming school year.
